AdoptionOS Certified Instructional Designer™: frequently asked questions
Questions candidates ask before starting the designer pathway — prerequisites, the portfolio submission and how it is assessed.
4 days + portfolio · $3,650
- Who is this certification for?
- Instructional designers, enablement leads, training managers and L&D teams who build learning for enterprise systems and want a modern, credentialed standard for that work.
- Do I need prior training before I enroll?
- Yes. Learning Experience Design Essentials (or equivalent design experience) is the foundation requirement. Existing designers can request an equivalency review of their portfolio.
- What will I be able to do afterwards?
- Analyze client and business needs before designing, design learning experiences for enterprise systems, develop content across video, eLearning and job aids, deliver and measure enablement at scale, and maintain learning through change.
- What is the format?
- A four-day instructor-led design intensive — Live Online or in person — followed by a portfolio build. You work a supplied enterprise case through analysis, design, storyboard and production, using the design toolkit and templates included.
- How long does it take end to end?
- Four days of scheduled delivery plus the portfolio piece. Most candidates submit within four to six weeks and receive their credential after review.
- How does the assessment work?
- You submit a portfolio containing a needs analysis tied to a business outcome, a designed learning experience with assessment, and a production-quality content sample. Each is reviewed against published production standards by an instructor, and you also complete the designer assessment. One resubmission is included if a piece is not yet at standard.
- What credential do I receive?
- The AdoptionOS Certified Instructional Designer™ credential, issued with a verifiable link you can share with employers and clients.
- Can my team certify together?
- Yes. Private cohorts use your own systems and content as the case material, so the portfolios produced are assets your organization can deploy.
